What does “closing the month” mean?

Once a month, check your balances and see what changed. A few minutes.

The short answer

Closing the month means stopping once a month to check that your balances are right and to see what changed. It takes a few minutes.

Why close a month

Payments pile up fast. Once a month, you draw a line: this is where I stood, this is what moved. Then the next month starts clean.

How it works in Jijenga

  1. Check each account’s balance. One tap if it’s right. If it’s different, you say what it is.
  2. See what moved your net worth: what you earned, what you spent, what you moved between your own accounts.
  3. Mark the month closed.

Do it every month

One closed month shows you a month. A row of closed months shows you a direction.

What you can do this week

  1. Pick one day each month to close.
  2. Start with last month.

What to remember

  • Once a month, you draw a line and see what moved.
  • A row of closed months shows you a direction.
