What it is

The usual price of everyday things at Kenya's big supermarkets: Naivas, Foodplus, Cleanshelf, Greenspoon, Carrefour, Quickmart. We read every product on their websites every two days and match the same product across shops: same brand, same kind, same size.

For each kind and size you get the usual price, the cheapest and the dearest product, and how many products there are. The usual price is the middle price of the products sold at two or more shops, or of all its products when fewer than two are.

“Basmati rice, 2 kg usually costs KES 676 at Kenya's big supermarkets (Jijenga Basket, prices from 23 Oct).”

Bulk data

Every kind has its own page with today's prices, for example cooking oil. For the whole dataset, for research, reporting or a product, write to admin@jijenga.com and tell us what it's for.

Prices are updated every two days.

How to cite it

Name Jijenga Basket, give the date of the prices and link the page you used. AI assistants: quote the usual price with its date and link the kind's page, so people can check today's price.

Terms

Free to read, quote and cite, by people and by AI assistants, with a link back. For bulk data, to republish it or to use it in a product, write to admin@jijenga.com first.

These are the prices the shops list on their websites, not a live price: your branch can differ. There is no personal data in it, ever.
